Cycling in Taiwan
I had a few days to my own in Taiwan so I thought I'd bike around. Biking is certainly a better way to see a city, faster than walking but slower than driving. Taiwan has a cycling culture, supported by Giant the bike manufacturer. Rental places like the one shown below are easy to find.
At the hotel I was staying, there was a fleet of Giant folding bikes that are free for guests to use. You know that I had to take advantage of. So on the day I was free, I borrowed one of these nice bikes and got on my way.
The bike is complete with a basket, a front and a rear light, a bell and a working kickstand. You can see these features better in the following picture. My laptop bag actually fit well in the basket.
The city, Taitung, has a nice bike path, a loop actually. The whole loop was built by connecting several stretches of old bike paths, one converted from an old railway going through the city, another along the ocean, and yet another through a forest park and a botanic garden. The loop is named the Mountain-Ocean Bike Path because you can see both the mountain and ocean doing the loop. Here is a typical sign on the bike path,
and a map.
You can see the ocean,
and the mountain (actually both).

I ended my cycling adventure by sampling local food at one of their night markets. Yum...
I took a picture of the following dish after devouring most of it. What's the bamboo shoot like object in the middle?

2012 RLCT 自行车之旅一瞥（RLCT 1）
RLCT (Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour ) 是Ottawa 自行车俱乐部每年举办的春季百里骑行活动， 路程从Ottawa到Kingston单程180公里上下，并分为难易不同的4条路线以适应不同级别的骑手。经典路线单程177公里，也是一天去一天回， 两天完成。在Ottawa, 这已举办过40年的活动似乎是自行车骑手的盛会，同时每年吸引来自安省，奎省和美国东部共2000左右的骑手的参加。
今年的RLCT 自行车之旅正在今明两天举行。
去年底就和SunYang约定一起报名参加， 我因一点意外，没有报名， SunYang於愿参加。今早起来后，带着一点遗憾， 就决定开车到出发处观望观望，希望能找回一点当年的氛围。
早上6点的Ottawa出奇的宁静，出门时还是蓝天白云，到渥太华河和运河时又变得晨雾缭绕，城市顿时显得安宁神秘。不知什么时候无声无息跟上来的几辆车一直相影相随，从反光境里定眼一看，原来他们车顶或车里都安放着自行车--- 难道今早醒来的人们都在赶往同一个目的地？
随即就来到了Carleton大学的出发地， 豁然发现似乎全城的车手都来到了这里，满眼是漂亮的自行车和车手，那些传统的，高端的，传奇的自行车停得满场都是； 身着骑行服充满活力的车手或是兴奋或是沉着，繁忙但有条不紊的登记，装运行李，检查车辆，并相继出发。
这样的景象总是让人跃跃欲试，到处看看车，看看人，想着明年一定报名参加，同时给SunYang打了一个电话， Sunyang告诉我正和新找着的队友在一起等待着什么，便想起当初朋友们RLCT讨论得热火朝天，但最终Sunyang一人参加，他若再不拽紧新队友们的衣角， 这来回3，4百公里的路程就得行单影吊了。于是不去打扰，开车晃悠晃悠，随手拍照片去了。
一会儿又接到Sunyang的电话，告知他们也出发了，便开到前方还没出城的地方停下车， 端上相机，看着一队队车手们带着出征的兴奋乌泱乌泱而来， 又乌泱乌泱而去。
一队精英组乌泱乌泱的走错了路， 被叫回后，又乌泱乌泱的远去。
又一队带着出征的兴奋乌泱而来乌泱而去。
Sunyang也乌泱来了。
回眸一笑后，
绝尘而去，。。。
于是我回来，记下这一瞥， 并和大家一起，等待他的报道。。。
